While Venice remains one of the most splendid cities of art in Italy, its tourist opening is equally based on the sea-related opportunities it puts forward to its visitors’ delight. Thus, the Port of Venice, which remains one of the largest and busiest ports in the Mediterranean Sea, is, from a tourist point of view, the main gate of entrance in the world of luxury, romantic and unforgettable cruises in the Venetian Lagoon, and even further in the open sea.

The port boasts of its performances in terms of industrial activities but its importance for the tourist platform of Venice should not be disregarded either. Thus, the port hosts the activities of sundry cruise and ferryboat companies which transport passengers throughout the lagoon, along the Venetian coastline, up to international destinations like Albona, Rovigno, Lussino, Pirano, Umago and Pola. The sea connections to Greek, Syrian and Egyptian destination have already become a tradition, which is why holidaymakers of Venice who want to expand their vacation pursuits can just as well turn to one of these companies in order to make a trip to the said exotic cities and resorts.

Porto di Venezia can be easily reached from Marco Polo Airport and from Piazzale Roma. In fact, the latter is located just a short walking distance from the port. The connection to the airport is of special tourist interest. Thus, the link is ensured by Alilaguna, with its Alilaguna Rossa line. Alilaguna also links the port to sundry other areas in Venice (Piazzale Roma and San Marco included), but tourists might just as well browse through the network of lines run by ACTV in order to see how well connected the port is to the rest of Venice.

Venice Passenger Terminal

The Venice Passenger Terminal, also referred to as the Venice Cruise Terminal, is, in fact, the relevant one from a tourist point of view. It is here that most of the sea line operators dock their vessels. The terminal is also the place where sundry traditional events and festivals of Venice are held each year, which means the Port of Venice is an active part of the exuberant life of the city, not only due to the fact it is one of the major gates of entrance in the lagoon for foreign visitors, but also because it plays an important role in the life of the locals.

The terminal hosts the activities of some 20 sea line operators, such as Minoan Agencies, Anek Lines, Mirco Santi and Le Navi Veneto. On top of that, by force of its location, the terminal is close to some of the most reputed tourist landmarks of Venice, most of them lining the two banks of the Grand Canal.
